As your board trustee, I have served the students, parents, teachers and staff of Scotts Valley Unified since 2016. In that time I have focused my efforts on prudent financial stewardship, advocating for better state funding, and addressing the need for a more inclusive environment in our schools.

As a father of four daughters who were educated in Scotts Valley’s schools, I have always been passionate about ensuring we continue to offer an excellent, holistic education to all of our students. I promoted policies to improve our curriculum for students “in the middle” through K Street Academy, and by offering more CTE education opportunities, while also supporting our excellent IB program.  Across all of our schools I supported the growth and measurement of our Social/Emotional learning programs, such as PBIS, to help our students mature into well-rounded citizens.

I worked on the committees to pass the bonds used to rebuild our Middle School in 2014, and the parcel tax to help increase teacher salaries in 2018.

To advocate for improved financing, I have met with our state and federal representatives, and joined the California School Board Association (CSBA Delegate Assembly to better represent our needs. Last year I presented at the statewide CSBA Annual Education Conference on the need for special education funding reform.

As your board president for 2 years, I helped navigate us through the challenges of COVID-19, and helped start the work to address diversity issues in our schools.

If re-elected, I will continue my work within CSBA and at the state level to fight for school finance reform to fix the state funding rules that shortchange Scotts Valley schools. I will continue to encourage our Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Belonging work that is essential to support the needs of every student in our schools.

I will continue to put our students first, serving you and them with integrity, thoughtfulness, and hard work. I would be honored to receive your vote.
